Messages from the President
Raising arthritis awareness one person at a time
Many people with arthritis are confronted by the lack of public knowledge about arthritis and are constantly trying to dispel the stereotypes. Imagine the revolution if 5 million people who have arthritis in Canada educate only 4 people ...
Minister, can you hear me?
During the federal election campaign CAPA wrote to Prime Minister Harper outlining our concerns relating to research funding, health human resources, and access to medications. Following the election our letter was forwarded to the new Minister of Health, Leona Aglukkaq. I would like to share with you some of what we wrote and her response.
Attitude and action: A winning combination
As the old year ends, CAPA milestones are upper most in my mind. Fall 2008 delivered a lot of good news. A CAPA member received an honourary doctorate and our CIHR grant application was successful. But our most recent achievement represents the spirit of CAPA. It is our new and independent website at www.arthritispatient.ca.
Federal election: Who will vote for you?
September typically heralds a change of seasons but this year it could be more than the leaves that change colour as Canadians are asked to mark their ballot in yet another federal election.
Looking ahead
CAPA's success in attracting members adds energy to the work we do and brings new ideas for involvement that mirrors members' concerns.
Arthritis: Your stories, our initiatives, and the scholarship program
People with arthritis have many things in common but the one that stands out the most is their desire to live life to the fullest.
Senate Inquiry: Arthritis reaches the Red Chamber
On Tuesday, November 27th, 2007, Senator Gerald Comeau, Deputy Leader of the Senate, introduced a Senate Inquiry into “the debilitating nature of arthritis and its effect on all Canadians”. His speech included information about different forms of arthritis and the devastating effects of the disease.
The changing face of CAPA
CAPA is adding a new logo to it's status as a non-profit corporation. Membership is growing faster than ever and applications and queries are coming in from as far away as Europe.
CAPA registers as non-profit organization
CAPA takes a giant step forward with its new status and ability as a stakeholder organization to voice the arthritis patient perspective.
Evaluation and Expectation
The CAPA Steering Committee's annual meeting was held in Toronto in mid-November.
